Serpentine Owl Carving (Zimbabwe)
This stunning owl carving is crafted in Zimbabwe from a rare serpentine called leopard stone, a hard magnesium silicate mineral. Leopard stone comes from small quarry mines in the Nyanga region and has been used for traditional Shona carvings down the centuries. Stone carving for the Shona people of Zimbabwe is part of their identity, an art form deeply rooted in their culture, and symbolises their connection to the natural world and ancestral spirits.
