This raw and natural grey moonstone is from Madagascar. The grey mingles with clear and milky white, and the moonstone offers up the occasional rainbow flash.  There is a hollow cavity in the centre of the stone that reaches right through from one side to the other. The stone has many layers and interesting textures. 
Moonstone is a member of the orthoclase feldspar group , and is a sodium potassium aluminium silicate. It has a monoclinic lattice system and a hardness of 6 - 6.5. 
As the moonstone forms and cools the orthoclase and albite separate into alternating layers. As light falls between the layers it scatters and produces a pearly adularescence. 
Moonstone is the Goddess stone of mystery, self discovery, reflection, intuition and insight. It is associated with the moon, tides and cycles, and teaches us about the natural rhythms of life. It is believed to be the bringer of good luck.
